A popular national daily reports that Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s highest-selling carmaker, will launch the highly-awaited Ciaz facelift in August. The updated Ciaz was expected to make its debut at the recently conducted Auto Expo 2018. However, the company chose to focus on the launch of the Swift and deferred the new Ciaz to a later date. Bookings for the new Ciaz will commence in July.
Currently available with a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine, the Ciaz facelift will come with a new set of motors. The current diesel engine, which is a Fiat-sourced Multijet motor, seems to be on its way out as the company will come up with an ingeniously developed 1.5-litre common-rail oil burner. Even the current 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine might be replaced with a 1.5-litre motor that will produce higher power and torque. It may be noted here that the Ciaz, which is a very comfortable and well-priced sedan, has often been criticized for the mediocre performance on offer. The upcoming new engines, in all probability, will solve this issue.
In terms of cosmetic updates, the Ciaz Facelift will offer a fresher front- and rear-end. Even the interior is likely to get a trim change along with a handful of new features. Akin to the current model, even the updated model will rival the likes of Hyundai Verna and Honda City. It’s worth a mention here that the Ciaz hasn’t seen any substantial updates since its launch in 2014.
With Toyota Kirloskar Motor looking all set to launch the Yaris sedan in a few months from now, it becomes all the more important for Maruti Suzuki to get the updated Ciaz here. Sources say that prices of the new Maruti Ciaz will be “different from the current pricing”. Our guess is that the new engines, along with the new features and a fresher styling, will lead to a marginal increase in the prices of the sedan.
We are awaiting an official word on the launch of the new Maruti Ciaz. You can safely expect us to update you with more details as soon as we get our hands on some. Stay tuned!
